DESCRIPTION: \n\n\n\n\n5th year mark of Hurricane Harvey\n \nOn the fifth anniversary of Harvey’s landfall, a series of commemorative events will occur.\n10 a.m. The Fulton Mansion will open their exhibit “It’s still standing…covering the impact of hurricanes on the Fulton family and the Fulton Mansion in a two-part series”\n5 p.m. All family & friends are invited to a social gathering and book signing.\nThe book, “Harvey Hit Here +5,” features photos and stories chronicling the before and after experiences of Hurricane Harvey. It is authored by Mike Probst, Editor and Publisher of the Rockport Pilot newspaper.\n6:30 p.m., the approximate time when the outer edges of Harvey started rolling in, a special ceremony will be held to officially commemorate the five year anniversary.\n7 p.m. the History Center for Aransas County will open their retrospective, “Weathering the Storms of 1919 & 2017” The exhibit features historic documents relating to the 1919 storm and a dramatic video portrayal of the 1919 events based on diary entries.\n \nFive years ago, the people of Rockport-Fulton braced themselves for the worst. On August 25, 2017, Hurricane Harvey came roaring ashore like a freight train. Turns out that hurricane did more than blow away buildings: it uncovered a community that was stronger than any storm.\nTo honor the effort it took to bring this coastal gem back to life, the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce and Visitor’s Center, and the Rockport-Fulton Chamber Foundation have created an interactive experience called ROCK SOLID: Our Journey of Resilience.\nCreated by a highly regarded member of the team at Austin’s Bob Bullock Museum, the exhibit features the timeline of Hurricane Harvey’s approach, the outpouring of generosity from across the country, videos and demonstrations of lessons learned, acts of human kindness that took the breath away of local residents, the story of the monumental mountains of debris and, a reflection of the silver linings that emerged.\n \nThe public is encouraged to stop by the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce and Visitor’s Center and see firsthand the journey of resilience that ROCK SOLID people like you helped make possible.\n \n\n\n\n
